Book Recommendation: “I’d Like to Be the Window for a Wise Old Dog” by Philip C. Stead

Recommended by TRACY YTTRI OPPER, Branch Manager, Baileys Harbor Library

A really good picture book is worth a read no matter what age you are. Philip C. Stead, the author and illustrator who’s best known for A Sick Day for Amos McGee, has created a book to treasure!

I’d Like to Be the Window for a Wise Old Dog reads like a poem, as many good children’s books do, and it’s wonderfully illustrated by the author. The sparse text is touching and rather silly – “Will I never be the feather of a walrus?” – and as the author states, “Sometimes the biggest, most important feelings in life are best expressed with a little bit of nonsense.”

This is a perfect read-aloud book for yourself or a gift to share with someone else!
