Boys Baseball: Eagles Win Season Opener

Southern Door’s baseball team opened the season on a winning note Friday with a 12-8 non-conference home victory over Reedsville.

The Panthers led early with two runs in the top of the first inning on two hits, a walk and a hit batter off Eagles starting pitcher Will Jandrin.

The Eagles tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the second behind singles from Nick Beck, Isaac Baudhuin and a two-out RBI single from Mason Paye. 

Southern Door pulled in front 5-2 in the bottom of third behind hits from Jandrin, Braylon Berg, Baudhuin and Jerek Valley.

After Reedsville added a run in the fourth inning without recording a hit, Southern Door took control of the game with six runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning to extend its lead to 11-3. The Eagles’ rally began with hits from Tyler Neinas, Jandrin and Berg. A sacrifice fly from Beck, a 2-RBI hit by Baudhuin and a run-scoring Valley single completed the six-run scoring spree.

The Eagles added a run in the fifth inning, before the Panthers closed out the scoring with five runs in the seventh inning.

Jandrin pitched the first three innings for Southern Door, allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits. He struck out four, along with giving up a walk and hitting a batter. Beck pitched the fourth inning, before Neinas threw two perfect innings, which included four strikeouts. Baudhuin pitched the seventh inning for the Eagles, giving up five runs, three earned, on four hits.

At the plate, Baudhuin batted 4-4 with his four singles driving in four runs. Players batting 2-3 for Southern Door included Jandrin, Berg and Valley, with Valley tallying 2 RBI.

The Eagles are scheduled to host Algoma for a doubleheader on Tuesday in their first conference games this season.
