Cappaert Gallery Welcomes New Glass Artist

Cappaert Contemporary Gallery welcomes the arrival of new work by Wisconsin glass artist Richard Jones.

“Glass blowing is often compared with dance for its physical nature and demanding timing. There is a play of elements which must come together perfectly in order for the work to succeed and seem inevitable,” said Jones of his process.

Jones’ work is hand blown in his studio; he often begins with a small piece of densely colored glass, which is then blown out and colored trails and silver are further blown to shape the piece. His inspiration comes from other vessel-making traditions and media, in particular East Asian decorative arts, but mostly from trying to ask the right questions and letting himself be surprised.
