Hayes Resigns from City Council

The current alderman in District 2, David Hayes, has resigned his position effective Sept. 30. The vacancy will be filled by a vote of the Sturgeon Bay Common Council, Oct. 20.

Those interested in filling the seat are asked to send a brief statement about their background and interest in serving. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and reside within the District. Statements of interest are due by Oct. 8.

Candidates will be asked to appear at the Oct. 20 Common Council meeting for the opportunity to introduce themselves. The council will vote on a replacement at that meeting.

“We appreciate the service given by Mr. Hayes and look forward to filling the District 2 seat so that citizens in District 2 are fully represented on the Council,” said Mayor David Ward.

Hayes, who turned in his resignation Sept. 11, did not respond to requests for comment.

“As I understand, Mr. Hayes sold his home and business earlier this summer and is planning to travel and explore the countryside in his RV,” said City Administrator Josh VanLieshout.

Letters of interest in serving should be sent to: City of Sturgeon Bay, Attn. Clerk Stephanie Reinhardt, 421 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235. A map of District 2 can found at:
