Daoust Climbs to Top of County Scoring Mountain

Door County has a new career scoring leader in boys basketball.

On Tuesday, Southern Door junior guard Drew Daoust broke the previous record of 1,566 set more than 24 years ago by 1999 Southern Door High School graduate Nathan Vogel.

Daoust’s 29 points also led the Eagles to a 73-63 Packerland Conference home victory over Algoma.

Needing 22 points to break the record, Daoust made a layup with less than 12 minutes in the second half to become the all-time career scorer. But Daoust isn’t close to done. The junior has a season and a half left to add to his impressive total. At his current pace it’s not far-fetched for him to climb into the top 10 scorers in Wisconsin prep history. Anthony Pieper is the state’s all-time scoring leader with 3,391 points.

Two other Southern Door players also scored in double figures with James Fish and Caden Pierre tallying 12 points apiece.

The Wolves were led by Chase Romdenne and Cory Kirchman with 17 points each. Parker Lischka added 13 points, with Grant Vandervest scoring 11 more.

Southern Door, which improved to 4-0 in the Packerland and 4-3 overall, next faces Milwaukee Washington in a tournament at Green Bay Preble on Dec. 28.

Algoma (3-2, 4-3) plays a non-conference game Thursday at Mishicot.
