DCAL Announces Anniversary Celebration and Artists of the Week

“Harvest Barn” by Ruth Sandor.

The Gallery of the Door County Art League (DCAL) and Connie Glowacki’s Watercolors with Spirit Gallery will celebrate their anniversaries at the Top of the Hill Shops on July 7 from 3 – 5 pm.

Neighbors for five years, both galleries will feature new artwork to mark the occasion. The public is invited to the anniversary reception; refreshments will be served.

The Gallery of the DCAL is also featuring the artwork of Ruth Sandor and Mitchel Heinrichs, artists of the week for July 8 – 15.

Sandor, of Sturgeon Bay, finds inspiration for her watercolors in Door County’s sunlight, landscapes, water, and little creatures like frogs and insects. She uses wet-into-wet technique and enjoys experimenting with paper textures and weights.

Sandor studied art at the University of Illinois and locally with Ed Fenendael and Connie Glowacki.

Heinrichs, of Fish Creek, captures the beauty of Door County in acrylic, pastel and watercolor, but oil is his favorite medium. A career commercial artist, Heinrichs was the art director for the publishing house of Country Beautiful. He also has experience in advertising and pictorial book design.

Heinrichs has a degree in design, layout and commercial art and has studied architectural design.

The Gallery of the DCAL, open daily from 10 am – 5 pm, is located at the Top of the Hill Shops on Highway 42 in Fish Creek.
