DCEDC Names Therma-Tron-X Industry of the Year

The Door County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) honored Sturgeon Bay’s Therma-Tron-X, Inc. with the Door County Industry of the Year Award Thursday, April 7.

The announcement came as part of the DCEDC’s annual investors meeting at Stone Harbor Resort & Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay.

The Door County Industry of the Year Award recognizes a local construction, service or manufacturing business that has made a substantial impact on the community and enjoyed significant accomplishments during the past year. Therma-Tron-X Inc., founded in 1969 by Otto Andreae and Ray Sherman, are global specialists in the design, fabrication and installation of world-class custom paint finishing systems for industrial clients. TTX Environmental, a division of Therma-Tron-X, Inc., develops water and waste-water treatment systems that minimize the operational costs and environmental impact of industrial processes.

Since moving into the Sturgeon Bay Industrial Park in 1976, Therma-Tron-X has seen significant growth in the size and scope of their facilities, team members, clients and annual sales. Employment has grown from 10 to almost 230; reinvestment into buildings and equipment in just the past 36 months exceeds $20.3 million and includes 73,500 square feet in new office and manufacturing expansion. The last three years alone have shown a 48 percent increase in sales for this growing firm.

Therma-Tron-X supports the community in a variety of ways through both direct and in-kind support of organizations and events, while team members are highly encouraged and given time to volunteer, support and take leadership roles in community causes and activities that are important to them and to the good of Door County as a whole. Major organizational support is designated to Ministry Door County Medical Center, the Door County YMCA, Door CANcer, Sunshine House, and United Way of Door County, among others. Company ownership promotes a family-oriented culture that strives to make work fun.

“We are pleased to recognize Therma-Tron-X, Inc. as our industry of the year,” said Chaudoir. “Their continued growth and investment in our community are welcome indicators of optimism and excitement for a bright future. We hope that will continue for many years to come.”

This year marks the 43rd year of the Door County Industry of the Year Award, first presented by the Door County Chamber of Commerce in 1973. Last year’s award winner was Jim Olson Automotive Group. Other recent winners of the Industry of the Year Award include Hatco Corporation, Renard’s Cheese Store & Deli, and WireTech Fabricators.

David Eliot and Madeline Harrison, owners of Peninsula Publishing & Distribution, were honored as the winners of the annual Door County Entrepreneurs of the Year Award.
