DCU Girls Swimmers Win Bay Conference Relays

The Door County United (DCU) cooperative girls swim team finished first overall in the Bay Conference Relays held Thursday evening at the Door County YMCA.

DCU tallied 136 points – 30 points higher than the second-place team, New London.

DCU won three out of the 11 events on the night. In the other eight events, the team placed no lower than third.

One of the first-place relays – consisting of Cassie Rankin of Sevastopol, Kailyn Neville of Southern Door, Julia Michalski of Sturgeon Bay and Anna Massart Southern Door – recorded the top finish for the 750-yard freestyle relay with a time about 18 seconds faster than the second-place team.

The relay of Emma Moyer of Southern Door, Paula Weinke of Sturgeon Bay, Shambo Wienke of Sturgeon Bay, and Anika Steinbach of Sturgeon Bay finished third in the 200 reverse medley relay. Steinbach helped the group secure that spot on the podium by passing at least two teams in the final 50 yards of the relay.

Up next for DCU is the team’s first conference matchup Aug. 31 at New London.
