DCU Girls Swimmers Swamp New London

The Door County United (DCU) high school girls swimming team dominated its home dual meet Thursday against New London at the Door County YMCA’s Carla and Ellsworth Peterson Aquatic Center in Sturgeon Bay.

DCU’s varsity topped New London, 131-39, with the junior varsity also winning, 91-45.

Highlights among DCU’s varsity swimmers included:

• Caitlyn Hasenjager of Sevastopol placing second in the 200-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100 freestyle.

• Danica Neville of Southern Door finishing second in the 200 individual medley and with her best split time in the 50 butterfly of that event.

• Sanya Wienke of Sturgeon Bay having her best time in the 100 butterfly, which also was the first, first-place finish for the night.

• DCU swimmers placing first in all the other varsity events as well. 

DCU’s junior varsity highlights included:

• Paula Wienke of Sturgeon Bay breaking 3 minutes in the 200 individual medley and 30 seconds swimming the 50 freestyle during the 200 freestyle relay.

• Rose Schommer of Sturgeon Bay having her best time in the 50 freestyle, dropping more than 5 seconds from the beginning of the season.

DCU will travel to Plymouth High School on Saturday to participate in the Plymouth Invitational.
