Delay in Gibraltar’s 4K Discussion

Early this summer, a Gibraltar Schools committee was assigned to start looking into adding 4-year-old kindergarten to its public-school offerings, but as of Oct. 4, the school curriculum committee has not pursued that.

“The district has not engaged in any further discussion of 4K programming,” said Stephen Seyfer, committee chair. “We committed to getting in-person teaching and learning well underway before returning to the topic and will do [that] soon.”

When the idea for the public-school offering arose this spring, it was not embraced by those who believe day care providers and established preschool programs would lose clients and perhaps fail as businesses if the district launched its own free 4-year-old kindergarten program.
