Door County Activities: Foods of Romance Gourmet Dinner and Cooking Class

Terri Milligan, co-owner and chef at the Inn at Kristofer’s, will be presenting a “Foods of Romance” gourmet five-course dinner and demonstration cooking class on Friday, February 13. The event will include a menu filled with ingredients that have aphrodisiac links.

“There are a variety of ingredients that are thought to have aphrodisiac powers,” explained Chef Milligan. “Some of these qualities are based on mythology and some actually have some validity. For instance, chocolate contains both a sedative which relaxes and lowers inhibitions and a stimulant.”

Milligan continued, “I thought it would be fun to create a special Valentine’s menu featuring a variety of these ingredients and discuss their so called “powers” during the demonstration portion of the event. But I make no claims as to whether these foods will create a more enjoyable Valentine’s Day!”

Recipes to be demonstrated in the class include: a first course of a “Love Apple Tart” (tomatoes, montrachet cheese, basil, mint and a flaky puff pastry); Caesar salad with cornmeal encrusted oysters; half of a cold water lobster thermador (a lobster tail stuffed with a mixture of lobster, crab and shrimp in a champagne sauce) grilled asparagus and truffled smashed potatoes; and a chocolate “kiss” dessert (chocolate ganache wrapped in phyllo dough and served warm with strawberry sauce!).

The event begins with a one-hour cooking demonstration by Chef Milligan in the restaurant’s second floor cooking classroom. Following the demonstration class, guests will be seated in the restaurant’s main dining room over looking the waters of Green Bay. The five-course dinner will be paired with two special wines selected by restaurant co-owner Kris Milligan.

The cost of the Foods of Romance Dinner and Cooking Class is $69 per person and includes the one hour demonstration cooking class, the five-course dinner with two wine pours, a copy of all the recipes and sales tax. Seating is limited to 24 people. To register, call the Inn at Kristofer’s at 920.854.9419. For more information visit http://www.innatkristofers.com.
