Door County Art League’s Mission Continues through Legacy Funds

The Door County Art League’s decision to dissolve last September ended 30 years of showcasing and promoting the arts and local artists in Door County, but its mission will continue through two local organizations which are beneficiaries for the league’s remaining funds.

At its final meeting, the Door County Art League board designated the Door County Community Foundation and the Miller Museum of Art, both based in Sturgeon Bay, as recipients for equal shares of the remaining funds of the League. The two organizations were chosen based on a poll of league members last fall. Each stands to receive more than $4,000.

Throughout its history the league has supported the Miller Art Museum’s Salon of High School Art and scholarships for local high school art programs with annual donations in keeping with its mission of education and promoting the development of local artists. The board has asked the Door County Community Foundation to designate its share of the distribution for its Arts Fund, which awards grants to local arts organizations.

“We are just so glad that the dream of our founders for strong and vibrant community-backed creative arts will live on in the legacy funds of these two capable, well-established organizations,” said Mary Hedeen, co-president of the Art League.
