On Friday, October 24, the Fairfield Art Center in historic downtown Sturgeon Bay officially unveiled an exhibition that it has christened “10” in honor of its 10th anniversary. The exhibition features the work of Craig Bleitz, Emmett Johns, Pam Murphy, Sandra and Wence Martinez, Michael Doerr, Margaret Lockwood and more than 50 other popular Door County artists. What’s more, all the artistic work on display will be included in the art center’s upcoming “Tenth Anniversary Holiday Gala & Silent Auction” on Thursday, November 20.

Executive Director Walt Freckmann is encouraging everyone to tour the exhibition, which is on display in the first-floor Main Gallery, and to attend the Holiday Gala for a festive evening of food, wine and music to support the arts and to kick off the holiday season.

“This will be the largest holiday silent auction we’ve had, in terms of pieces of artwork and number of participating artists, in the six years that we’ve held the holiday gala event,” Freckmann said. “But what’s even more exciting is the level of work that our community artists have donated.”

The Fairfield also will be auctioning an eclectic assortment of small bird figures featuring various artistic styles. Collected by art center benefactor William S. Fairfield during his many travels over the years, these unique pieces were created in several mediums, including glass, wood and stone.

In addition, the silent auction will include a variety of non-art gift items from area businesses. These will be put on display on the night of the Holiday Gala & Silent Auction; they will be available for bidding starting at 6:30 pm.

The “10” exhibition is open free to the public until the Holiday Gala & Silent Auction. Gala tickets ($45 members/$50 nonmembers) are available in advance at the Fairfield (check, cash or credit purchases) or at the Dancing Bear and Northern Territory (cash and check only). Guests also may purchase tickets at the door on the night of the event; however, space is limited and advance purchase is recommended.
