Door County Humane Society Seeks Volunteers

Door County Humane Society (DCHS) will hold an Orientation Session on Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 11 am – noon for people interested in volunteering at the shelter. Anyone over age 18 who would like to learn more about volunteer opportunities at the Humane Society is invited to attend. With the animal population at an historic high, the need for volunteers is great.

Carrie Counihan, Director of the Door County Humane Society, together with the shelter staff, have identified two areas of most urgent need: adoption specialists and cat cage cleaners. Each day, every one of the 130 plus cats currently at the shelter receives fresh food, water, and bedding in addition to a cleaned litter box. Adoption Specialists are the first friendly faces that greet potential adopters, answer phones, and help match homeless cats and dogs with just the right forever family.

Prospective new volunteers may call Nancy Fisher, Front Office Coordinator, at 920.746.1111 ext. 5, for more information.

The shelter is located just south of the city of Sturgeon Bay at 3475 Park Drive. Monetary or supply donations are always welcome – especially now, due to a recent influx of pets requiring special care. Staff can be reached by phone at 920.746.1111 or find a new furry friend online at http://www.dooranimals.com.
