Door County’s underwater hockey team, the Sturgeons, took third place in the open division of the Central Midwest Championship underwater hockey tournament last weekend. The two-day international tournament was hosted at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wis., and included about 200 players and 14 teams from Columbia, Canada and across the United States. The Sturgeons lost one of their 10 games throughout the weekend, but unfortunately that game was the semifinal match against Chicago, taking them out of the final playoff game.

The Door County Sturgeons are led by coaches Kendall and Sue Banks. The Sturgeons meet on Fridays at the Sturgeon Bay YMCA at 6:30 pm and welcome new players of all levels. Visit their website at sbunderwaterhockey.com for more information about the team and the sport of underwater hockey.
