Door Shakespeare Grows, Seeks Manager

As Door Shakespeare approaches its tenth season of bringing the best of Shakespeare and classical theatre to the Door Peninsula, the company is seeking to hire a year-round manager.

“This position has been needed for several years,” said the company’s executive director, Suzanne Graff. “We’re anticipating Door Shakespeare’s ability to further its involvement with the community, as well as expanding our programs, as a result of filling this exciting post.”

The company developed as an offshoot of American Folklore, who had presented Door Shakespeare as a project for two years. In 1999, Jerry Gomis and his wife, Suzanne Graff, established a separate company and presented one show for 17 performances to 1,700 attendees. Today, the company performs a summer season of two shows in repertory for 42 performances to 5,000 fans.

Hiring a business manager is a critical move for Door Shakespeare who has relied on the largely voluntary management of Gomis and Graff over the years.

“Juggling the growth of the company, especially the focus on the artistic creations, as well as development and marketing has become overwhelming for us,” said Graff. “We are so grateful to the entire Door Shakespeare Company and Board of Directors who have patiently worked with our administrative capabilities…Bringing on a manager who will work for the company year-round from Door County is the brightest asset to Door Shakespeare’s future.”
