DOT Announces Southbound Detour in Sister Bay

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region office has announced Hwy. 42 construction in Sister Bay will resume on Monday, April 11. The project had been shut down for winter. Work will continue with sidewalk construction, remaining intersection construction, retaining walls, and miscellaneous finishing such as pavement marking, signing, and landscaping. The project began on July 6, 2015, and is scheduled for completion in June 2016.

When construction resumes on Monday, northbound Hwy. 42 will have one lane open to traffic. Southbound 42 will be closed. Detour is as follows:

  • The 42 southbound traffic detour is Scandia Road to Woodcrest Road to Old Stage Road to Hwy. 57 to Country Walk Drive to Hwy. 42.

The roadway and parking areas will be open prior to Memorial Day weekend. Access to local businesses and residences will be maintained throughout the entire project.

The $5.8 million project involves the reconstruction of nearly a mile of Hwys. 42 and 57 in Sister Bay. The work includes traffic and erosion control, signing, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water main, curb and gutter, sidewalks, lighting, concrete and asphalt pavement, and landscaping.

When completed, this project will:

  • Provide a safer roadway through the village of Sister Bay;
  • Improve bicycle and pedestrian mobility through the village
  • Increase the village’s storm sewer capacity
  • Improve the quality of the storm water entering Lake Michigan
