Eagles’ Scoring Spree Pummels Pioneers

After trailing 5-4 early in the first half Saturday, Southern Door’s boys basketball team scored 41 unanswered points to pull away on Sevastopol’s home court.

Lucas Delsart put in the Pioneers’ first five points to take the lead, but it wasn’t until Oliver Mathews made a free throw with 2:44 before halftime that they scored again.

The Eagles led 53-10 at the break and went on to win their Packerland Conference contest, 92-32.

Drew Daoust, who exceeded 1,900 career points, led five Southern Door players in double figures with a game-high 27 points, which included four threes. Caden Pierre added 15 points with five threes, Lauden Berg scored 13 points and Tyler Neinas and Will Jandrin tallied 12 points apiece.

Delsart was Sevastopol’s only player to score in double figures with 11 points. Mathews added nine points.

The Eagles, who also won a non-conference game 66-54 a day earlier at Crivitz, improved to 10-0 in the Packerland and 13-4 overall. Southern Door hosts a non-conference game Tuesday against Luxemburg-Casco before hosting its next league game Feb. 5 against Sturgeon Bay.

The Pioneers, who dropped to 0-8 in the conference and 2-12 overall, host their next Packerland game Monday night against Algoma.
