Edgewood Orchard Opens with “Door County Treasures”

Edgewood Orchard Galleries celebrates the beginning of its 44th season and the completion of an expansion to the gallery’s sculpture garden with an “Opening Day” Reception on May 5. Since opening day coincides with Cinco de Mayo, visitors can enjoy chips, salsa, guacamole, and a selection of Mexican beers throughout the day. The show features newly completed artwork inspired by the landmarks and natural areas located throughout the peninsula.

Pieces range from more traditional paintings of the Rock Island boathouse and views of Ephraim from Eagle Bluff to a stackable collection of hollow Door County “beach stones” made entirely of clay by Wisconsin potter Alex Mandli.

“Sunshine” by William A. Suys, Jr.

Visitors on opening day will also have the opportunity to walk through the newly completed sculpture garden. The new section features nearly two-dozen sculpture display areas, numerous benches to sit on, and a “council ring” style fire circle.

In addition to the “Door County Treasures” show, the gallery’s first exhibit will feature the stoneware of David and Jeanne Aurelius, jewelry by Marcia McDonough, sculptures by James G. Moore and oil paintings by William A. Suys, Jr. Each of these artists will have a larger collection of artwork at the gallery from May 5 through June 12, and will attend a Memorial Day Weekend reception on May 26 from 4 – 7 pm.

The opening day reception is open to the public and will be held from 10 am –5 pm. The gallery is located at 4140 Peninsula Players Road between Egg Harbor and Fish Creek.

After May 5, the gallery will be open daily from 10 am – 5 pm through October 28.
