Egg Harbor Historical Society Acquires 202 Audiotapes for Archives

The Egg Harbor Historical Society acquired a treasure trove of Door County history in January when John Enigl turned over his archive of 202 audiotapes of interviews conducted throughout his writing career.

Enigl, who wrote about history, agriculture and community events for the Door County Advocate for more than 20 years, donated the material to the society, which will catalog the interviews. The historical society plans to create a searchable database of the interviews and multimedia projects from the archive, which includes interviews with scores of notable people in Door County history.

In other historical society news, they have allocated $22,000 to repower the old Door County Bookmobile and get it back on the road and they will hold a reunion for those who attended the old Egg Harbor elementary school on June 26, 11 am to 3 pm. The reunion will include a picnic lunch and a dedication of a plaque recognizing the school and the old Pleasant View School that once stood near the corner of Harbor School Road and Memorial Drive.
