Fatal Crash in Ellison Bay

Nathan W. McKillen, 33, of Ellison Bay, died at the scene of a one-vehicle accident early Saturday morning, Jan. 28. 

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene at 4:47 am on Highway 42 on the Ellison Bay hill in Liberty Grove, according to a press release issued by the Door County Sheriff’s Office. 

The incident is still under investigation pending an autopsy by the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office, but the preliminary report indicated that McKillen had been driving northbound in a black, 2005 Envoy when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the centerline and entered the north ditch before coming to rest after striking several trees. 

Officials closed the highway during the investigation, 5:00-8:48 am. 

Emergency responders from Liberty Grove, Sister Bay first responders, Door County Emergency Services, the Door County Highway Department and the Door County Sheriff’s Office all assisted at the scene.
