Fish Creek Highway Work Resumes March 9

Highway 42 closed from YMCA to Windmill Lane

The Department of Transportation will close Highway 42 in both directions – from the YMCA to Windmill Lane in Fish Creek – on March 9. The road closure is anticipated to continue through June as crews resume work resurfacing the highway, including the addition of new pedestrian improvements near the school.

All north-bound and south-bound traffic will have access to Gibraltar Area Schools via Gibraltar Road off County A. The school will monitor road closures and alter schedules as necessary, and it will update parents and guardians as needed about any future changes to bus schedules.

More information regarding bus lanes and parent drop-off zones will be sent to parents by mail.

A new crosswalk near the secondary-school entrance will be marked with orange cones to ensure that students can safely cross the bus drop-off area to reach the school. Courtesy of Gibraltar School.

During construction southbound traffic will officially be detoured down County A to County E, then over to Egg Harbor. However, visitors will be able to take a shorter route to Fish Creek by taking County A to Peninsula Players Road, then crossing over to Highway 42 to head north into Fish Creek. There will not be access to downtown Fish Creek or the school via County F or Spring Road.

A construction update meeting open to the public is scheduled for Thursday, March 5 at 4 pm at the Gibraltar Town Center.  Vinton Construction will be at the meeting to go over their construction schedule. More information on the project is available on the town website here>>

The official detour takes traffic south to County E around Fish Creek. However, drivers will be able to cross over on Peninsula Players Road to get to Highway 42 and proceed north to Fish Creek.

Highway 42 is expected to be open to County Road F by Memorial Day Weekend, with remaining closures and flagging operations ending by July 4 weekend. Highway 42 will remain closed from Highway F to the YMCA through June.
