Fishstock Concerts Continue with Doc Heide

Local favorites Doc Heide and Eric Lewis will headline a concert at the Fishstock Concert Series on Sunday, August 3 at 7 pm.

Joining them will be Lee Becker, Karen Mal, Tommy Burroughs, Monica Heuser, faculty from the Door County Bluegrass Camp, and surprise guests.

Heide is co-founder of American Folklore Theatre (AFT) and co-author of such hit musicals as Packer Fans from Outer Space and Belgians in Heaven. He has been a New Folk Finalist at Kerrville Folk Festival and is celebrating his 35th season onstage in Door County.

Lewis, based out of Memphis, has toured with Robin and Linda Williams of Prairie Home Companion and opened for such acts as Travis Tritt and Chuck Berry. He has won the Best String Player Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

The pair has worked together on two previous CDs. Lewis is lead guitarist for Doc Heide and the Pills, whose album Peaceful Kingdom earned comparisons to the writing of Bob Dylan by critics in the U.S. and abroad.

Heide and Lewis’ recent instrumental CD, Christmas in Door County, has been the most successful of their careers.

The concert will combine original songs, folk, bluegrass and wry humorous asides. Several songs written by Heide this winter will be premiered.

Lee Becker, best known locally as Ernie the Moocher in AFT’s Guys on Ice, will perform on bass and vocals. Karen Mal is an award-winning singer-songwriter based in Austin, Texas. Tommy Burroughs has recorded with John Prine, Greg Brown and many others. Monica Heuser recently won the coveted Ivey Award in the Twin Cities for her title role in Love, Janis.

Fishstock is located at 3127 County Road F between Fish Creek and Baileys Harbor. Seating is limited. Information is available at fishstock.com and 920.839.2981.
