July 12 Folk Festival To Feature Traditional Dance, Song Workshops

The Door County Folk Festival (DCFF) presents a fun-filled and educational dance/music weekend that attracts hundreds of participants from around the U.S., Canada, and beyond. DCFF offers an extended weekend July 12-16 of dancing, singing, learning, networking, eating, partying and making friends in a congenial, relaxed, community atmosphere. The festival runs across venues in Baileys Harbor, Ephraim and Sister Bay.

This festival is fun, welcoming and unique, with most events designed for audience participation – learning and doing heritage dances and songs of America’s diverse populations. The festival includes opportunities to learn a variety of ethnic folk dance and song styles as well a variety of traditional American dance and song styles. There are workshops accessible for those with little or no experience as well as workshops for those with intermediate and advanced skills. 

The Contra Dance Weekend features American and English dance workshops by and parties with guest callers Jonathan Sevier and Meg Dedolph, a clogging workshop by Lynn Szatkowski, as well as Shape Note singing sessions by Carol Crawford. Rare Privilege, the Cosmic Otters, and Jason Busniewski provide live music.

The Festival also offers free sessions of outdoor youth activities, a family barn dance and a traditional Door County fish boil dinner.
