Free Clearing Hikes Cover History & Landscape of School

The Clearing Folk School will once again offer free, docent-led hikes covering the 81-year history, folklore and landscape of the school and its 128-acre property. These interpretive hiking tours will visit the historic buildings and campus, which are on the National and State Historic Registers, led by volunteer docents.

The approximate two-hour hikes begin at 1 pm on most Saturdays and Sundays starting May 21, during the Ellison Bay Arts Spring Art Crawl weekend, and run through the end of October. Specific tour dates for May, June and July are listed below and at theclearing.org under the Events/Tours tab. August through October dates will be announced in July.

Dates for hikes are May 21, 22, 28, 29, June 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26, July 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 & 31.

No pre-registration is necessary. Tours begin at 1 pm from The Clearing’s Jens Jensen Visitor Center, located at 12171 Garrett Bay Road, Ellison Bay, where maps are also available for self-guided tours during weekend Open House hours (noon – 4 pm). The terrain is rugged in places and sturdy walking shoes are highly recommended.
