Free Well Testing for Private-Well Owners

Kewaunee County – The Kewaunee County Land and Water Conservation Department (LWCD) is offering free well testing for up to 300 private-well owners as part of a comprehensive study of groundwater quality in Kewaunee County.

“We hope that Kewaunee County residents and businesses with private wells will agree to assist this study as we continue to understand the extent of nitrate and bacteriological contamination in the Silurian Dolomite aquifer, and determine if or what progress has been made in Kewaunee County since the implementation of the new NR151 Silurian

Dolomite Standards and Prohibitions,” said Davina Bonness, LWCD conservationist.

Volunteers will tell participants how and when to sample their wells. Once water testing is complete, private-well owners will receive a copy of their individual results. All results will be confidential and will be presented to the public only in a way that does not identify individual homes or businesses.

A grant from Wisconsin Coastal Management and a donation by Peninsula Pride Farms are funding the free well testing.

To participate, contact Bonness by July 5 at 920.845.9743,  920.845.9740 or [email protected].

Bottle pick-up will be held July 6 and 7 at the LWCD office, 625 3rd St. in Luxemburg.
