Fundraiser Raises $32,000 For Bookmobile Restoration

The Door County Bookmobile restoration project got a boost in August when a pig roast fundraiser brought more than 550 people to Sawyer Farms and raised $32,000 for the effort.

“It was just a real outpouring of interest from the community and support from our businesses,” said John Sawyer, co-chair of the Bookmobile committee, a special project of the Egg Harbor Historical Society. “It showed how much the community cares about this and the high regard people have for the bookmobile.”

The bookmobile is now back in the shop to finish work on the chassis and engine and restoration of the interior cabinets. Sawyer said it should be ready to drive in early summer of 2024, and the committee is continuing to raise funds to hire a programming coordinator and drivers for the bookmobile.
