Go On An Owl Prowl

Mating season for owls takes place during some of the coldest months of the year, and it’s not unusual to hear them start their romantic hooting shortly after New Year’s Day. Join a Ridges naturalist for an Owl Prowl on Jan. 17, 6:30 – 8 pm, and learn more about these nocturnal birds of prey and their amazing adaptation to nighttime hunting.

This is a rare opportunity to hear, and hopefully see, some of the owls that call the sanctuary home. The evening begins with a short indoor program on the owls of Door County and their calls. After learning some of the more common calls, hikers will take to the trails to listen for owls and to see if they will respond to recorded calls. Hikers should dress warmly, wear appropriate footwear and bring a flashlight.

Meet at The Ridges Nature Center, 8288 Hwy Q, Baileys Harbor. Program fees are $10 per adult for Ridges members, $13 per adult for the general public, and $5 for children under 18. Space is limited. To reserve a spot, call 920.839.2802 or email [email protected].
