Gutenberg! The Musical! by Scott Brown and Anthony King is now open at Third Avenue PlayWorks (TAP) after enjoying a sold-out opening night Oct. 7. The first show to be produced in TAP’s newly renovated theater will run through Oct. 31.
Gutenberg! The Musical! follows a pair of aspiring playwrights who are performing a backers’ audition for their new project: a big, splashy musical about printing-press inventor Johann Gutenberg. With unending enthusiasm, they sing all the songs and play all the parts in their crass historical epic, with the hope that one of the producers in attendance will give them a Broadway contract.
Directed by Michael Stebbins, the cast comprises Chad Luberger (Doug Simon), Doug Mancheski (Bud Davenport) and Ryan Cappleman (Charles, the pianist).
Shows run Tuesday – Saturday, 7:30 pm, and Sunday, 2 pm. Tickets ($35 per adult and $20 per student) are available online at thirdavenueplayworks.org or by phone at 920.743.1760. All audience members must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and wear a face mask.
