Interactive “Before I Die” Exhibit at Link Gallery

The Door Community Auditorium (DCA) presents an exhibit in the Link Gallery entitled “Before I Die.” The exhibit consists of walls full of blackboards bearing the repeated phrase “Before I die I want to…” with a blank space. Visitors to the Auditorium are invited to write their own dreams and aspirations on the blanks. Since being installed in the gallery in early June, the exhibit has been met with enthusiastic engagement; many visitors have already recorded their hopes on the DCA blackboards.

“Before I Die” was created by artist Candy Chang on an abandoned house in her neighborhood in New Orleans. Today, over 200 “Before I Die” walls have been created in over 15 languages and in over 40 countries.

As the summer progresses, entries will periodically be erased to allow space for new visitors to participate in the exhibit. Comments will be photographed, archived, and shared on the DCA website and with the national movement’s organizers.

Kurt Thomas created DCA’s Before I Die Exhibit, with additional help from Lamperts of Sister Bay, Scott Gordon, Scott Lindgren and Logan Thomas.

This exhibit will be up through September 2. DCA, open 12 – 5 pm Monday through Friday, is located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek.
