June Ends with Stellar Performances at DCA

Ladysmith Black Mambazo

The Door Community Auditorium (DCA) has an impressive lineup of music scheduled for late June.

On June 21 at 8 pm, DCA will present an evening of music by legendary South African vocal group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Since they were introduced to mainstream American audiences on Paul Simon’s 1986 album Graceland, Ladysmith Black Mambazo have won three Grammy Awards and received fifteen Grammy nominations. In 2013, they celebrate over fifty years of making joyous music that marries the intricate rhythms and rich a cappella harmonies of their native South Africa to the powerful sounds of traditional gospel music.

Tickets range from $22 to $45.

Carolina Chocolate Drops

On June 23 at 8 pm, the Grammy-winning string band Carolina Chocolate Drops will perform old-time string band music. Based in North Carolina, the Chocolate Drops bring their brash, youthful energy to bear on traditional African-American string band music, revitalizing and reinventing one of America’s most foundational musical traditions. The innovation and vigor the Chocolate Drops bring to their music led National Public Radio to call them “the hottest thing to hit the old-time music community in decades.”

The Carolina Chocolate Drops were founded in 2005 and won a Best Traditional Folk Album Grammy in 2010 for their album Genuine Negro Jig.

Tickets range from $22 to $45.

The upper echelons of music royalty will come to the DCA on June 28, 8 pm, with a concert by Nashville super group, The Time Jumpers. The Time Jumpers play country and Western swing music in a way that few do, revitalizing classics and adding new songs to the swing and honky-tonk repertoire.

The Time Jumpers

The current Time Jumpers roster includes: Vince Gill (vocals, guitar), Dennis Crouch (upright bass), Larry Franklin (fiddle), Paul Franklin (steel guitar), “Ranger Doug” Green (vocals, guitar), Andy Reiss (electric guitar), Dawn Sears (vocals), Kenny Sears (vocals, fiddle), Joe Spivey (fiddle, vocals), Jeff Taylor (accordion, piano) and Billy Thomas (drums, vocals).

Tickets for the concert range from $45 to $68.

Advance reservations are recommended for all concerts. For tickets, call 920.868.2728, visit dcauditorium.org, or stop by the DCA box office. The box office is located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek and is open 12 – 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
