Kewaunee County Annual Food Drive Begins

The Kewaunee County Department of Human Services is asking the local community to “Be a Shining Star” this holiday season and make a donation to the 5th Annual “Giving for Sara” Food Drive to help stock the shelves at the Kewaunee County Food Pantry. The fundraiser is in the memory of Sara Malay, who was serving as the Aging Services Unit Director in the Department of Human Services for Kewaunee County when she unexpectedly died Oct. 7, 2013. In the last four years, Kewaunee County Human Services has collected and donated more than seven tons of food to the Kewaunee County Food Pantry in Algoma. “Sara was so passionate about helping others and that inspires us to give back,” said Kim Vandermoss, Economic Support Specialist, Kewaunee County Department of Human Services. “Each donation makes a difference, big or small, it doesn’t matter and that’s because we’re in this together.” Kewaunee County Human Services is also collecting paper and personal hygiene products and accepting monetary donations, as part of their initiative to assist others in Kewaunee County. Those who wish to write out a check, should make it out to the Kewaunee County Food Pantry and drop it off at the Kewaunee County Department Human Services, 810 Lincoln St., Kewaunee, WI 54216 during business hours, Monday – Friday 8 am-4:30 pm. For each monetary contribution, donors can place a star on the Christmas “Memory Tree” in the lobby of the Department of Human Services and for every donation of non-perishable healthy food items and/or paper and personal hygiene items, donors can put an ornament on the tree. Donations can be made now through Dec. 22.
