Letter to the Editor: We Vote For Ray Pelrine

We come to our friends and neighbors and the Southern Door community by way of this letter to ask for your support at the Tuesday, Aug. 9, Primary Election by voting for incumbent Ray Pelrine for Door County District Attorney. Ray Pelrine comes to the ballot with more than 30 years’ experience as a seasoned prosecutor. As part of those years, I have worked for Ray at the Door County Courthouse when he initially came to Door County hired as an Assistant District Attorney back in the early 1980s, and then again, as our District Attorney at the Door County Justice Center from 2005 to the present.

I have watched Ray prosecute crimes and ordinances with sincere integrity and fairness, always striving for an outcome that helps keep our communities safe places to live, work and raise our families. I have also watched Ray prosecute the juveniles of our community who sometimes make poor choices in the hopes of teaching them a lesson for adulthood. I know firsthand that a good experienced prosecutor must have the ability and knowledge to evaluate the facts of any given case presented to him by law enforcement, determine if the elements required for a successful prosecution exist, and then initiate and follow through with the prosecution, working to achieve the best possible outcome for the community and the many people who find themselves victimized across our county. Ray Pelrine has this ability and knowledge. I have personally witnessed Ray put his whole heart and soul into his work when preparing for and then prosecuting extremely sensitive cases such as homicides and sexual assaults. Ray Pelrine has the empathy and ability to put himself in the place of a victim and their families when prosecuting these sensitive crimes, in the hopes of easing their distress with a fair prosecution outcome. By working for Ray over the years, I know firsthand that choosing a career as a prosecutor does not make you popular, especially within a small community such as ours. Ray has found himself prosecuting acquaintances and neighbors, a daunting duty, but one of a prosecutor. I have watched Ray take his oath of office as the Door County District Attorney. In that oath he swore that he would support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Wisconsin, and that he would faithfully discharge the duties of said office to the best of his ability, so help him God. Ray Pelrine has done just that, and wants to continue doing that with your help. So, we thank you in advance by joining Mike and I at the polls on Aug. 9 to vote for an experienced prosecutor, Raymond Pelrine, for Door County District Attorney.
