Letter to the Editor: Deadly Summer

It’s been a short summer in Door County but a deadly summer across our country. The New York Times reports that this summer there were 26 mass shootings in the United States in public places and private homes. One hundred twenty-six people were killed and dozens injured. In three of the four deadliest killings, the gunmen used military-style weapons.

So far, our elected officials have done nothing: no new gun laws, no strengthened background laws, no banning of military-style assault weapons. The silence from our Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson and our Assemblyman Mike Gallagher is deafening. Their silence is disappointing and inexcusable.
