Letter to the Editor: Tammy Baldwin is Wisconsin’s Bipartisan US Senator

In this season of good tidings and cheer, Tammy Baldwin comes to my mind. We Wisconsinites are so fortunate to have her as our U.S. Senator.

She is currently supporting a bipartisan Senate bill that will reduce the high cost of insulin. More than 37 million Americans live with diabetes, including over 400,000 Wisconsinites. This bill will substantially lower the cost of insulin and will ease the approval of generic drugs.

Sen. Baldwin has long advocated for holding big drug companies accountable. Last year she helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which for the first time allows Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices and caps the cost of insulin at $35 a month for Medicare recipients.

I believe that our democracy can only thrive and move forward if our elected officials in Washington remember that one of the things they’re elected to do is to protect and make our lives better. Over the 10 years that Sen. Baldwin has been in the senate, she has often voted for and sponsored bipartisan bills that she feels will benefit Wisconsinites and all Americans.

Sen. Baldwin is a Democrat and believes in the values of the Democratic Party. However, she is not blinded by party loyalty. She will work across the aisle to get things done. Knowing she has our backs, and is willing to work with her Republican colleagues when she sees legislation that she believes will work for the greater good of our country, is a great reason to celebrate her in this season of “good will to all.”
