Longest Play-off in Resorters’ History

On August 5, Andrew Godfrey, from Homewood, IL and also a member of the Western Illinois men’s golf team, captured his third Resorters’ championship in a battle against past champion, Mike Gilliam of Green Bay.

To qualify for the championship match, Gilliam beat out Peninsula Golf Course employee, Aaron Slaby in what turned out to be the longest play-off in the 86-year history of the tournament. In a back and forth match that was tied after 18, Gilliam finally defeated Slaby on the ninth play-off hole.

Cam Fuller, of Sturgeon Bay and member of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men’s golf team, was the Championship Flight’s Consolation Winner, defeating Ben Thompson from Illinois. Amy Gehrke from Muskego, who earlier in the week was the Women’s Low Gross Winner in the Gould-Chomeau, captured her first Resorters’ Championship, defeating Peninsula employee, Grace Caird.

The annual Resorters’ tournament, that began in 1925, is believed to be the longest running match play tournament in the country. The four-day tournament that runs the first Monday through Thursday in August, pins golfers of similar ability against each other in a head-to-head, double elimination format. This year, there were seven men’s, three women’s, and two junior’s divisions. For further results, see below:
