Martinez Studio Opens with Porcelain Pop-Up Show

Martinez Studio will open for the season on May 14, 11 am – 4 pm, with a pop-up show for Romulus Craft.

Romulus Craft is visiting from Vermont. Ikuzi Teraki and Jeanne Bisson handcraft functional and sculptural porcelain. Subtle and refined, the forms are elegant and the glazes reference starry nights and beach sand. The tactile qualities of gloss against matte make holding the work a discovery every time. “We fell in love with them and their strong elegant works a few years ago on the show circuit and are honored to host them as they swing through on their way back to Vermont,” said Sandra Martinez.

The opener will also celebrate Sandra and Wence Martinez winning the Smithsonian Craft Show Silver Award for overall excellence. The couple was singled out among the 121 exhibitors who were juried into the prestigious national juried show out of 1,100 applicants. “We were just stunned when they called our names! The artists surrounding us there are of such a high caliber we were totally surprised,” Sandra said. “Already the recognition has brought significant visibility to our work and some very interesting conversations have begun. We are so grateful to the Smithsonian Women’s Committee for their continued efforts on the behalf of the nation’s craft artists and the Smithsonian mission. It is a great honor to be included and to be awarded the silver.”

Martinez Studio is located one mile south of Jacksonport at 5877 Highway 57 across from Mr. G’s Logan Creek Grille. The studio is open 11 am – 4 pm daily, but closed Wednesdays. For more information call 920.823.2154 or visit Martinezstudio.com.
