Miller Announces ‘Salon of High School Art’ Award Winners

The Miller Art Museum has announced the award winners in its 48th Annual Salon of Door County High School Art, on display through May 23 at the museum, 107 S. 4th Ave. in Sturgeon Bay. The multimedia exhibition features original work by students in grades 9-12 who attend one of the peninsula’s five high schools.

Awards of Excellence (a $100 cash prize) went to Makayla Ash of Sturgeon Bay High School, Isaac Rincones of Sevastopol, Christina Padilla-Volkman of Gibraltar, Anna Olson of Southern Door and Joseph Lux of Washington Island.

Six $50 Honorable Mention awards also went to Jace Johnson of Sturgeon Bay High School, Inho Lee of Sevastopol, Wyatt Beaudot of Gibraltar, Kalissa Ambrosius of Southern Door and Andrea Valentincic of Washington Island. All student artists received certificates of participation presented by their respective art teachers.

In addition to cash prizes, the museum partnered with the Artist Guild and Peninsula School of Art – courtesy of a financial gift through the Cramer Family Fund in memory of longtime art supporter Tricia Cramer – to offer all of this year’s awardees certificates for art supplies and instruction to further their artistic endeavors. This gift also allowed the museum to double its contribution to each school’s art department.
