Miller Announces Winners of 2015 Juried Exhibition

The Miller Art Museum recently announced the eight artists who received awards in conjunction with the organization’s 40th Juried Annual exhibition. The awards were presented at a free public opening reception on Sept. 12 at the museum in Sturgeon Bay.

Deborah Rosenthal, Curator of Exhibits and Collections, handed out the awards honoring both established and emerging artists. Three Special Merit Awards and three Juror’s Awards were presented along with the prestigious Gerhard Miller Award of Excellence, and new in 2015, the Bonnie Hartmann Award for Outstanding Creativity.

Below is the list of winners.

  • Gerhard Miller Award of Excellence: “Sentinel” by Brigitte Kozma, oil/wrapped canvas.
  • Bonnie Hartmann Award for Outstanding Creativity: “Lucia’s Iris” by Sharon Auberle, mixed media print.
  • Special Merit Award: “Girl on a Train” by Martha Coaty, photography; “Pond” by Marilyn F. Stasiak, acrylic; “French Fields” by Rob Williams, oil.
  • Juror’s Award: “Shallow Depth” by Ginnie Cappaert, oil and mixed media; “Mortimer” by Tonya Kehler, digitally enhanced photograph; “Hanson’s Old Barn” by Stephen Kelley, acrylic/canvas.

The 40th Juried Annual exhibition continues through Nov. 3, and features 44 paintings, photographs, mixed media works and prints on paper. The members of this year’s jury panel were: Shan Bryan-Hanson of Sturgeon Bay, painting faculty and Director and Curator of Art Galleries and Collections at St. Norbert College; Sally Everhardus of Fish Creek, artist and retired arts administrator; and William Greider of Oshkosh, art educator and printmaker.
