Northern Sky Receives Grants

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) awarded Northern Sky Theater a $10,000 grant. The funds will support a world-premiere production of The Thing with Feathers, with a book by Robin Share, music by Clay Zambo and lyrics by both.

Northern Sky will develop and workshop the play in 2024 and 2025 for a 2026 premiere at Northern Sky’s Peninsula State Park Amphitheater in Fish Creek. The production is larger in scale and production values than most Northern Sky musicals, and it will entail several areas of extraordinary expense, including puppets, puppeteer coaching, bird costumes and set pieces.

Northern Sky also received a matching grant of $13,530 from the Wisconsin Arts Board to support its ongoing commitment to writing and developing new musicals.

“Grants like this are critical to the role we play in the economic vitality of our community as well as the value we add to the culture of our community,” managing director Holly Feldman said.
