Northern Sky Theater is pleased to announce that it has received a matching grant of $11,500 from the Wisconsin Arts Board. This grant supports Northern Sky’s commitment to writing and developing new works of musical theater tailored for the company’s unique multi-generational audiences.
State grants are awarded through a competitive process. This grant indicates that Northern Sky provides a high level of quality in its programs, community outreach and administration.
“Northern Sky’s artistic mission is to create a body of regionally relevant work unparalleled by any other troupe, while simultaneously advancing the craft of the American musical,” said artistic director Jeffery Herbst. “At the same time, Northern Sky is dedicated to presenting shows at affordable ticket prices, ensuring that tens of thousands of families can continue to enjoy original, regionally themed musicals for years to come.”
“Without the support of the Wisconsin Arts Board, this mission simply would not be possible,” said managing director Dave Maier. “One workshop alone can exceed $10,000 in expenses for housing, travel, rentals, and artist compensation.”
Wisconsin Arts Board grants are awarded on a matching basis. Organizations that receive Arts Board funds are required to match state tax dollars with additional public and private funds.
Northern Sky Theater is a nonprofit professional theater organization that produces original musical shows in repertory from June through August. Northern Sky continues its performances into the fall with shows at the Door Community Auditorium and town halls September through October and over the Christmas holiday.
The company’s casting will be announced in April 2017.
Tickets for both the summer and fall season will go on sale April 3 in the Northern Sky box office at the Green Gables shops in north Ephraim, by calling 920.854.6117, and online at NorthernSkyTheater.com.
