Notes from the Grove

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tidbits of information about goings on in town government.

Quick reminders: During town hall remodeling and new construction, the town offices are in their temporary location at the North Fire Station. Town and committee meetings are being held at the Ellison Bay Community Center. Please check the calendar on the town Web Site for times and possible location changes. With the exception of posted closed sessions all meeting are open to the public.

• Town Board meetings are held the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Committees have been asked to schedule their meetings on set dates for consistency. As those dates are established they will be posted on the monthly calendars.

• On Monday, October 12, 6 pm, the Plan Commission and the Town Board will hold a joint session to receive input from residents regarding the Town Zoning Map and the Door County Comprehensive Plan Map. Mariah Goode of the Door County Planning Department, as well as Mark Walter of the Bay Lake Regional Planning Commission, will be in attendance. The Town Board and Plan Commission encourage those who have questions or concerns about land use in Liberty Grove to attend and speak at this meeting.

• On Wednesday, October 14, Julie Felhofer from the USDA is scheduled to meet with interested parties regarding loans and grants available for home improvements. Please contact the Town Office for more details.

• Bud Kalms reports that budget work for 2010 is in full swing. Committee meetings are posted on the Web site calendar and the Town posting places. This process will culminate in the town budget hearing and meeting to set the levy on November 11.

• Planning and consultation continues on the sidewalks between Waters End and Hill roads. The highway committee is reviewing this and will have a walk through with adjacent property owners in the near future. The intersection of Highway 42 and Waters End is also included for planned modification.

• Work on the town hall/shop continues to progress. The communication wire is being installed and phones selected. Drywall and plastering is in progress, doors and windows are in place. The truck bays are enclosed and just about ready for the doors. A second propane tank to service the building is in place. Aprons and sidewalks on the east side have been selected and will be installed shortly so paving can be planned to match up with it.
