Obituary: Erika Popovich

November 11, 1928 ~ July 17, 2021

Erica Popovich, 92, of Sturgeon Bay died peacefully on July 17, 2021 at Door County Medical Center.  She was born November 11, 1928 in Kristin, Germany to Fritz and Mina (Weier) Henning. In 1950, she married Voimir “James” Popovich.  In 1951, they immigrated to America, settling in Chicago.  They became citizens of the United States in 1957.

Erica and James taught themselves English as they adjusted to their new life in America.  She and her husband raised four children in Chicago while she worked as a dietician at a Chicago Hospital.  Her husband preceded her in death in 1986. After visiting Door County for years, she and her daughter moved to Sturgeon Bay. 

Erica was an amazing cook and baker.  She loved ballroom dancing and showing her grandchildren the great sites of Door County.  She and her husband always took great pride in maintaining their yards and gardens.  She was a very strong, kind, and loving person who cherished her family.  Erica will be deeply missed by her family who admired and treasured her very much.

Survivors include two sons, Alex (Jennifer) Popovich, Lena, WI; Gene Popovich, Margate, FL; a daughter, Renata Popovich, Sturgeon Bay; 8 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step-mother Emma Henning and daughter Donna Beaudoin.

Funeral Services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Forbes Funeral Home, the Rev. James Gomez officiating.  Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home until time of services.  Inurnment will be at Bayside Cemetery.
