Obituary: Evelyn Ruth Nehlsen

Evelyn Ruth Nehlsen was born on August 2, 1928 in Lombard, IL to John Allen and Ethel (Jepsen) Bunch.

She passed on peacefully into God’s presence on January 18, 2016 in Sturgeon Bay, WI. She was survived by her husband of 65 years, Walter I. Nehlsen; her brother Charles Bunch (Connie) of CA; children: Marilee Nelson (Jeff), David Nehlsen (Linda), Peter Nehlsen (Leila); grandchildren: Ben Nelson, Steve Nelson, Karen (Nelson) Steurer, Jordan Nehlsen, Nikki Nehlsen, Nicholas Nehlsen, Jacob Nehlsen, David Nehlsen, Jack Nehlsen, and Marisa (Nehlsen) Kerhen and 14 great grandchildren.

She loved and supported her husband Walt and was focused on the care of her home and family. She was a faithful Christian and daily prayed for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed hosting family events that featured her famous apple pie, cookies or coffeecakes. She enjoyed writing novels and children’s stories as well as gathering pictures and stories related to family history. She, in later years took painting classes and painted scenes of the beautiful Wisconsin’s countryside that she loved. She learned wood working so she could make Christmas presents for the family. She enjoyed a very fulfilling job as a cost accountant for thirty years and later was manager of the accounting department of Creampaco in Lake Mills, WI. She was always involved in the music program where she attended church by playing piano or the organ, singing or directing the choir. She taught Sunday School for many years. Evelyn and her husband settled in Jefferson, WI until their retirement and then moved to live on Washington Island, WI.

Services will be held on Thursday January 21, 2016 at Bethel Church on Washington Island at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be in Washington Island Cemetery.
