Obituary: Frederick B. Grant

Frederick (Rick) Bahr Grant of Sister Bay died June 10, 2016 after a short fight with cancer. Rick, as he was known to everyone, was born in Highland Park, Illinois to Mona Bahr Grant and Charles Frederick Grant. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Michigan State University after which he worked for Stouffer Foods (where he met his wife Pamela Welch), Kitchens of Sara Lee, Buitoni Foods, and McCormick Foods. Rick retired in 1992 and he and Pam moved to their home in Sister Bay. They purchased the Olde Stage Station Restaurant in Egg Harbor and added the Dough Exchange Bakery and Catering. People who lived and worked in Egg Harbor during that time will remember Rick as the fellow walking his beloved black standard poodle, Suds. Typically, it was Suds dragging Rick rather than Rick walking Suds. He retired again in 2007, selling the restaurant and resuming his love of making pottery which he sold at local farmers’ markets.

Rick leaves behind his wife Pam of Sister Bay, son Joseph Charles (Cynthia)Grant, grandson Andrew Joseph (Kelsey) Grant and granddaughter Reid Erin Sanderson, all of Huntsville, AL.

Following Rick’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. Burial will be private.
