Obituary: Rick Soukup

Sept. 27, 1956 – Jan. 7, 2024

Richard (Rick) Soukup Sr., 67, died at his home on Sunday Jan. 7, 2024, with his loved ones by his side. Rick was born in Sturgeon Bay on Sept. 27, 1956, to the late Raymond Soukup and Joanne LeCloux. He graduated from Southern Door High School and married his high school sweetheart Polly. They were happily married for 49 years.

Rick had the passion for taking old cars and gas pumps apart then turning them into show pieces. His passions also included the love for hunting, collecting guns, building, and remodeling around his home. He loved spending his time out in the woods with his family.

Rick’s love for his family and grandchildren showed through every day in his actions. He loved teaching his grandchildren his skills in life such as making maple syrup, basic car upkeep, and how to deal with the hard ships in life with a positive attitude. You could always count on him for a smile and laugh.

He is survived by his wife Polly (Fortemps) Soukup, their sons Richard (Jaime) Soukup, Michael (Devon) Soukup and his grandchildren Terah Soukup, Britni Soukup, Kylie Soukup, Dane Soukup, and Sunny Soukup; his brother Gary (Vicky) Soukup, sister Missy (Jeff) Bruemmer, brother Jeff DeNamur, and a sister in-law Martha Soukup. Rick has 9 nephews and 1 niece.

He is preceded in death by his dad Raymond Soukup, stepmother Charolette Soukup, stepdad Harry DeNamur, brother Randy Soukup, and nephew John Soukup, sister-in-law Ginger (Fortemps) Woolums, brother-in-law Paul Fortemps, father-in-law Allen Fortemps, and mother-in-law Virgina Fortemps.

A visitation will be held at Forbes Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024, from 4 to 7 pm. A celebration of his life will be held later in early spring of this year. Online condolences may be offered at forbesfuneralhome.com
