OBITUARY: Susan Louise Sadowski

Susan Louise Sadowski, 79, passed away due to natural causes in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin on Oct. 11, 2018. Susan was born Susan Louise Brown to Warren and Myrtle (Furseth) Brown in Stoughton, Wisconsin on Aug. 14, 1939. She grew up in Evansville, Wisconsin, where she attended Evansville public schools and was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She graduated from Evansville High School in 1957. During her high school years, her older sister Betty and brother-in-law Byron Holmes were especially dear to her, almost like a second set of parents. After graduation, Susan moved to Minneapolis to live with her older sister, Phyllis. On March 9, 1963 she married Edward John Sadowski of Kenosha, Wisconsin at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Minneapolis. A minister who had served in Evansville married them.

Susan and Edward raised five children, living in Minneapolis, Buffalo, and Blaine, Minnesota. The children could not have asked for a better mother, because of her unconditional love and generosity as a listener. She had a strong relationship with God and found comfort in daily prayer. She was a lifelong friend to many. Over her life, Susan worked as a secretary at North American Life Insurance Company in Minneapolis, a clerk at Clancy’s Drug Store in Edina, Minnesota, a secretary within the Buffalo School District, and as an assistant to a caseworker for Anoka County Human Services. Susan and Edward retired to Sturgeon Bay, a place they loved visiting together.

They enjoyed nature in all the places they lived, spending time visiting wildlife sanctuaries, state parks, arboretums, orchards, and the countryside. Susan adored wildflowers, butterflies, and birds.  She created special bonds with many cats and dogs in her life and appreciated the thousands of photos Edward took of people, pets, and things she loved. Susan loved reading books, watching old movies and The Lawrence Welk Show, writing letters, and staying in touch with phone calls. She, like her sisters, was a giggler, and enjoyed laughing with friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Phyllis Shorten. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Edward; sister Betty J. Holmes; daughters Anne (Porter) Loomis, Karen Sadowski (Kevin Winters), Kristine Sadowski, Julia Sadowski (Chris Buchholdt); son John Sadowski; niece Nancy Shorten (Steve) Walters; nephew Brian (Beth) Shorten; and grandchildren Adele and David Loomis, Jamie, Sam, and Elliot Winters, Harriet McGuire, and Aidan and Madeline Sadowski.

Susan wished to be cremated and for there to be a small family ceremony, both of which took place at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The family will gather again in the spring of 2019 to remember, honor, and celebrate Susan’s life. She did not want a funeral service. While there are no specified memorials, these organizations were especially important to Susan: National Wildlife Federation, The Garden Door, and The Humane Society.
