Painters Recognized in Maryland

Four oil painters whom were on a painting trip earlier this year to southwest China, which was organized by the Barnsite Gallery and Linden Gallery, as well as a painting mentor who will be on the March 2009 painting trip, were recently recognized at the Easton, Maryland Plein Air Event.

The Easton, Maryland event is arguably the largest and most prestigious plein air event in the country. The artists are “juried in” each year and from a field of several hundred applicants just 55 painters are selected. The weeklong event culminates with a series of auctions and sales for the works that have been completed and framed.

The five winners with connections to the Door Peninsula include: Scott Tallman Powers with Highest Bid – Paint out Auction, Second Place – Main Competition, and Highest Overall Sales Price; Susan Ploughe with Award of Excellence – Quick Draw; Carol Lee Thompson with Most Paintings Sold (11); Roger Dale Brown with Third Place – Main Competition and Academy Art Museum Purchase Award; Frankie Johnson with First Place –Marine Division.

All of these artists will have featured work on display at the Barnsite and Linden Galleries from August 29 to September 21 during the “Exploring the Hidden Realms of China” Exhibition, a review of work begun on their three week trip to China in April 2008. The public is invited to receptions, where most of the artists will be in attendance, at Barnsite Gallery on Friday, August 29, from 4 – 6 pm and at the Linden Gallery on Saturday, August 30 from 4 – 6 pm.
