Winter Exhibition with Plein Air Painters

Work by Liz Maltman

The community is invited to attend a reception on Jan. 24 from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Door County Community Foundation to open the Winter Exhibition featuring works by artists Liz Maltman and Rick Risch. A Fish Creek resident for many years, Liz Maltman began painting about ten years ago when she discovered “plein air” painting. Working mostly in pastel or oil, Maltman’s landscapes are nearly all created “en plein air”. The constantly changing light and atmosphere as well as the adverse weather conditions are challenges she enjoys.

The Peninsula School of Art in Fish Creek has invited Liz to participate in the 2015 Door County Plein Air Festival to be held in July 2015. The annual event features 40 nationally recognized plein air painters from all over the United States and Canada. Self taught, Rick Risch has had his hands in drawing, painting with oil, watercolor and pastel, ceramics and mosaic design, and stained glass. Rick lives with his partner Liz Maltman in Fish Creek. The Door County landscape is in many of his paintings and stained glass windows. Rick also is interested in working with portraits, which make up the main body of work being shown at this exhibit.

Morag Hornsby and her team from Serves You Right Catering will serve refreshments. No RSVP is necessary. Each quarter, different Door County artists will be invited to exhibit their work. The Gallery is normally open to the public during the Community Foundation’s regular hours of 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
