Pedestrian Killed in Institute Crash

A 64-year-old Sturgeon Bay man was killed Friday, Dec. 6 when he was struck by a driver on Highway 57 in the Town of Sevastopol.

Robin Laak was exiting the Institute Saloon at about 7 pm when he was struck by a 2007 Chevy Tahoe driven by a 33-year-old Sturgeon Bay man traveling southbound. The driver and a passenger in the vehicle were not injured.

Laak was crossing the highway to the parking lot across the street when he was struck. Deputy Pat McCarty of the Door County Sheriff’s Office said the department is awaiting results of toxicology tests to determine if alcohol played a role in the crash. The Wisconsin State Patrol Reconstruction Unit worked with the Sheriff’s Office at the scene to determine if speed was a factor, McCarty said. The crash remains under investigation.
